You know how theirs that one summer sequel everyone's going to see and everyone thinks its going to be the best thing since crembrule, however you come out of theatre thinking it was alright or mediocre well thats how I felt two years ago when i saw Spider Man 3 and thats how i felt recently when i came out of Transformers 2; Revenge of the Fallen, a movie that followed up to a movie that i did like but left its sequel in displeasure.
Sam (Shia Labouf) is departing for college and has to leave Bumblebee behind much to both their dismays. While at college Sam starts to have revelations about strange markings that seem to have a connection to cybertron. This leads Sam to frustration at Optimus with both of them wanting peace and Optimus telling Sam that his fear that Megatrons war will have a major impact on humanity.
Im a big fan of the Transformers toy-line having collected many during my childhood, my mother thought they were to violent, over the years I had to agree but i still thought of changing shape to be interesting like how water can turn into ice and back again. I really liked the first transformers movie because it had what was needed to boost the toy-line to a feature film with action and strength but this one has a bit too much action and the story is alot harder to follow, Although i have to admit Shia's performance in his revelations is good he is over exaggerating a bit but he is possessed and is doing it quite well. I have to admit this movie has some very good special effects however that doesn't mean its eligible for an Oscar. For a movie to get that nomination the special effects have to reflect the story and this film is just showing off the cool explosions and awesome transformations rather than have them benefit the story. For me personally i was never into the Autobots vs Decepticons i was more interested in the Beast Wars Era. This was an era which the people of my generation grew up watching and i liked it much better than the original series. The reason i liked it better was because it took its slogan to full meaning “robots in disguise” by assuming the forms of living breathing creatures they can really understand what they are protecting or what they want to destroy “the organic”. Also by assuming animals are open to not stronger but more cunning attacks than a truck, car or war machine ever could. But whats good about this movie is that it sells; Michael Bay knows who is going to see this movie and he throws in everything the audience will want to see with plenty of Megan Fox to go around and just as many special effects and slow motions to fit in.
The real reason i didn't like this movie is simple; Its overrated and overproduced, their are too many effects even though all the robots are composed of special effects, and the story doesn't follow well enough to its predecessor. So i can say Transformers 2 is not worth your time except if your a fan i recommend it and ignore this review because you will be satisfied.
My Rating: 1/4 Shamrocks
