In part three Manny the Mammoth is expecting to be a father while his friends Diago the saber fears he's losing his edge and Sid the Sloth wants nothing more than to be a parent. While on a walk Sid stumbles across an underground ice chasm and finds three dino eggs and takes them above ground with the hope of being a “mother” as he puts it. When they hatch the mother finds her eggs and takes Sid and her babies back underground to reviel a world where dinosaursare still alive and have to find Sid in this new or old world, however the require the held of a diranged weasel who has a score to settle with a ruthless dino. Meanwhile Scrat as usual must retrieve his aircorn only this time has compitition.
In a trilogy i usually like the original best and give its sequals a “thumbs sideways”. Coming into this movie i expected it to be weak since im not a big fan of the Ice Age movies. The first thing i didnt like was its lack of scientific proof. For instence evan in today's cartoons you can tell that their is no way early mammels and prehestoric creatures could live together after the meteor or whatever killed the dinosaurs. The second is the overuse of pop culture refrences including a ripoff of the Flinstones which was itself a ripoff of the Honymooners, a few gay jokes and a rap joke and the thing is none of it fits the time period. Yes i know it was before the invention of everything we need to survive, but at least you can do some animal, physical or bathroom or bush humour. My biggest concern is that Blue Sky studious the creators of Ice Age is that they can make such a beautiful film with spectacular effects and lighting but cant seem to make a solid story or at try to make something new, if they did that then they might have a better chance against Pixar and/or Dreamworks. The only thing i really did like was Simon Pegg's performance in this movie because you can tell if an actor is having fun in a movie because this one is full of energy and always brings it out when other actors cant, but i do think his characters a little overrated. This review wouldnt be complete without talking about the Scrat and how much the world loves to hate him. Just like Wile E. Coyote this guy will do anything to get what he wants but the problem is he's to pathetic for a movie. Although ive liked the sub plots scrats behaviour seems to be more sutable for a saturday morning cartoon back in the 50's because his antics although funny will not get as big of a laugh as they used to because people think slapstick is dead and that pop culture is whats funny, well i think its quite the other way around. Im only going to recommend this movie for anyone who liked the first two movies and anyone who doesnt i recommend something better; UP.My Rating: 1.5/4 Shamrocks
