You know that feeling you have in the morning after you've had a great time and you cant remember it, well its called a hangover and thats the title of the new movie The Hangover which i thought would be terrible since i saw so many bad comedies in the past few years that arnt even worth mentioning. However i actually really liked it, loved it even the perfect buddy film and the perfect comedy of the year. Its the perfect movie for anyone who's experienced the meaning of the title and its good for anyone who's about to go through it so you can be prepared to counter it.
Doug (Justin Bartha) is about to be married and takes his three friends Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), and Alan (Zach Galifianakis) to Las Vegas for his bachelor party. After renting a plush suit at Ceasers Hotel the four men go up on the roof and make a toast. The film then fast forwards to the next morning and none of the men can remember what happened last night finding the most random things in their room including a tiger in the bathroom, chickens in the kitchen and a baby in the closet. Oh and the groom is missing and the wedding is in less than two days.
I was expecting this to be a bad comedy since ive seen alot of bad movies in the past few years that i don't need or want to talk about. However i found this to be a rather smart and original comedy that teaches responsibility, treasuring what you have and learning to just break out and have fun. What i really like about the plot is the mystery surrounding it where the detectives are the victims trying to figure out what they did to make the groom disappear from their wonderfully forgettable night. The humour for this film is very raunchy and the humour is non stop because almost every line has some sense of humour or irony that can overshadow most flaws. I find it interesting the story is very random and not the type of random seen in parody movies, but this type of random that has a meaning and actually makes sense later on, when its all put together like a puzzle.
I think the only real problem with this movie is with its female cast, none of them really develop much in any way through the movie and their acting is a bit mediocre to the men (im not being sexist im just telling the facts) because none of them really do anything or really contribute to the story except for Heather Graham on some degree acting as a clue for the groomsmen. I guess thats the only real flaw with this movie because everything else seems to work out great, the plot, characters, setting and morals. As the old saying goes “What happens in Las Vegas stays in Las Vegas” so be prepared for your bachelor parties gentlemen otherwise you might lose more than just a tooth.
My Rating: 3.5/4 Shamrocks
